PEER TUTORING: GUIDELINES FOR STUDENTS
These guidelines will help the students make the most out
of their tutoring sessions.
It is not appropriate to ask your tutor to:
- Do your homework for you.
- Help you complete your homework "on time."
- Explain course material that you have not attempted to learn
or understand on your own prior to the tutoring session.
It is appropriate to ask your tutor to:
- Help you determine your strengths and weaknesses in the
area being tutored.
- Review the material you will need to focus your tutoring
sessions.
- Explain difficult concepts to you.
- Assist you in applying concepts.
- Direct you to other academic resources when appropriate.
Tips for Preparing for your Session:
- Review and attempt to understand course material for the
relevant week.
- Attempt all homework problems/questions. Complete what
you can do on your own.
- Determine what you understand and what you don't understand.
- Prepare questions for your tutor. Identify aspects of the material
that you want to work on with your tutor.
